Description
Thanks to the trilateral cooperation between the Zinc Smelter, the Municipality and Veolia, the waste gas from the production of zinc and lead is used to produce heat. Heat is produced by burning 6.3 million m3 of waste gas from the zinc production process at the smelter, which allows to obtain over 60 thousand GJ of heat annually. The heat is then distributed through pumping systems to buildings, using a low-parameter heat network. Veolia manages the district heating network and is responsible for heat distribution throughout the city.
This investment allowed an inefficient pumping station to be eliminated in the municipality and pumping/mixing systems to be built in the buildings. Veolia develops the network infrastructure in the city by connecting new customers and the necessary modernizations are being carried out for the effective use of waste heat. Thanks to this solution, the resident’s fees for heating were reduced by 9%.
