Description
The Volkswagen Poznan foundry and Veolia Energia Poznan have launched an installation recovering heat from technological processes, which, instead of being released into the atmosphere, goes to 30 buildings located nearby. The investment, which is the result of three years of partnership between Veolia and Volkswagen Poznan and uses Atlas Copco technical solutions, is one of the first cases of heat recovery from industrial processes for district heating in Central and Eastern Europe. The innovative concept of the Volkswagen Poznan Foundry and of Veolia Energia Poznan allowed to put heat emitted by compressors in the plant through Veolia’s substation directly to the municipal network. Thanks to this solution, it will be possible to achieve annual savings of 17 million litres of water and nearly 12 000 GJ of energy, which means 635 tonnes less coal combusted at the Karolin CHP Plant and a reduction in local CO2 emissions by more than 1200 tonnes. Thanks to the commitment of all parties, it was possible to create a high quality technical solution, which guarantees measurable benefits for system heat consumers and the environment.
